Derbyshire Labour prioritises many services to help the elderly and vulnerable across our county; the Handy Van service is one of these. From April 1 2016 a new phone service has been made available to make it easier for people to access the service.
Last year over 8,000 over 60’s and disabled residents were helped with a number of household tasks, including instillation of free smoke detectors, falls prevention and home fire safety checks.
Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Paul Smith, said: “Having people around to do little jobs around the house is important to residents and we are delighted we can help in that. This all helps support people to stay in their own homes.
“People who qualify can have two free visits per year where Handy Van staff, as well as performing household jobs, will carry out home safety checks for residents who need them.”
